Stacked with Daniel Negreanu Summary

One of the main, and most-touted features, is computer-generated advice on your game play, mostly taken from (and delivered by) poker star David Negreanu. Stacked’s AI is supposed to learn your playing style and adapt its methods and strategies accordingly, to give you a more challenging game. In reality, however, the AI doesn’t live up to its expectations. Additionally, while it’s great to have the knowledge of one of poker’s great players as a basis to analyze your playing technique, style, and strategy, the comments and critics that are delivered in the analysis section can oftentimes be quite irrelevant and inapplicable to your game.

While the idea of basing the game’s AI system on a superscientific computing model sounds great, the execution fails in more ways than one.

Our Thoughts on Stacked with Daniel Negreanu

Stacked offers eight different AI modes, but many players claim that there is little difference among them. One of the biggest problems with the game’s AI is that after a while, it’s possible to get used to the play patterns of the AI and then that information can be used to overcome the strategies of the AI players and, therefore, “cheat” your way through the game. This greatly takes away from the realistic experience and positive feedback that players otherwise would be able to use to improve their own poker games and strategies. There is a claim that this only occurs if you’re not playing the game as if you’re playing with real money and the chips you’re betting really matter. Since a player who is looking to play the best possible game and win the most possible cash is looking to play their best, they don’t just learn the style of the AI and assume that it is all that matters. Realistically, though, it can be a misleading experience since real players are rarely as easy to learn.

One other issue with the game is with the advice given by Negreanu. Many players claim that it doesn’t really go into specifics; it just provides general commentary on your play style and strategy without providing you the background analysis.

While you may learn a thing or two from Stacked with Daniel Negreanu, for the most part, there’s really nothing new of value that’s brought to the table that isn’t handled better by the many other poker games currently available.
